BEGINNERS WILD CAMPING PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKSHOPS

Snowdonia – 28th & 29th April 2018

£135 - 4 Places

Ever wanted to get up high and camp in the wilds to capture wonderful mountain sunrises, but never had the confidence or even the gear? Well, this workshop might be for you.

Together, our small group will assemble in Capel Curig (Snowdonia) on Saturday morning to meet and enjoy breakfast together (included).

With our gear packed and bellies satisfied, we will then set off with a suitable target destination in mind for the capabilities of those in the group, heading high enough and far enough away from the crowds to give us the best chance of capturing some special images.

By mid-afternoon on the Saturday, we will aim to make camp and explore the immediate surroundings, and following a good mountain meal, we will set-up for sunset. Once a hopefully spectacular sunset is over, we will retire to our tents to get some shut-eye before an early alarm-call to photograph sunrise. After breaking camp, we will slowly make our way back down the hill to our waiting vehicles, followed by a quick de-brief over some refreshments and maybe a little image processing if time allows before we part company.

Throughout we will be using OEX Cougar EV II Tents that have been tested by me in wild conditions in Iceland and on the hills of Snowdonia. They are strong, spacious and very light. You will be sharing the tent with another participant or myself, splitting the tent to spread the weight while hiking. If you do not have your own suitable sleeping bag and sleeping mat, I can provide this free of charge for use during the workshop. I also supply all other necessary camping equipment (stoves, gas, pans) but you will need your own cutlery, food bowls, food (except an evening meal for the wildcamp, which is included), hiking equipment (including rucksack 50-70 ltr), etc. I will provide you with a full kit list in advance. You will need to carry all of your own kit, including camera and tripod. Typically, this will all amount to 12-18 kgs. Therefore, please be cognoscente of this when you book. Wild camping photography is not easy, but I will select routes that are not too taxing and we will take our time. The rewards are often worth the effort!

Given that the weather plays an important part, in the lead up to the weekend I will keep people updated with plans. If the weather looks particularly bad, I may postpone the weekend to an alternative date that is suitable for all. You understand this when you make a booking.

Difficulty Level: **** Difficult (The routes are generally moderate, but time on the hill can lead to fatigue, hence the difficulty rating)
